“I am writing this email to compliment you on 2 very amazing people in your team namely – Quinton and Jan.

After 2 weeks of no Landline or internet in my home, a million calls to Telkom’s 10210, several visits to Rhine Road Sea Point, depleted data on my cellular phone plus my data on my two children’s cellular phones as they had work to do for school and UCT respectively I was in a total state. I have been driving up and down Sea Point looking for Telkom vans asking whoever I saw to assist me , but to no avail at all.  They just wouldn’t and always came up with an excuse. So on Friday last week I say 2 gentleman working on the box on Kloof Road opposite Quendon Road (where I live) and thought I may as well attempt to ask them to assist as the weekend was fast approaching, I  am a single mom looking for a job and therefore need internet etc etc.

Your two gentleman were kind and warm and listened to my story, took my number and said that they cannot promise but they will see what they could do. And very true to their word at 2.30pm on the way back from fetching my child from school, they called me on my mobile telling me that they had fixed the problem and would be at my apartment in 10 minutes. In true style they arrived, sorted everything out, refused any compensation whatsoever  – not even something to eat or drink and went on their way. I thought you should know that these 2 gentlemen went beyond the call of duty and in such a friendly and efficient manner. I will never forget their kindness and really feel that they deserve to be recognised.
Service like this, believe me is so hard to find. Thanking them both from the bottom of my heart.”

“I recently had an ADSL line installed at my residence in Sea Point (tel 021 433 0852). Although arrangements had been made at the Telkom office, when the time came for installation by Mr Majidee he discovered there was a fault in regard to the line.  He immediately made arrangements to have the problem resolved. I also had some difficulty in obtaining password details telephonically from Telkom, but Mr Majidee sorted this out quickly.

I consider it appropriate to bring it to your attention that, notwithstanding certain disappointment with Telkom, the effective and efficient services of Mr Majidee ensured that my ADSL communication was satisfactorily established.  I would like to commend him not only for his assistance but also for the present manner in which he carried out his work.”

“My e-mail to you dated 03 May 2017 sets out the unhappy state of affairs regarding poor Telkom service.

However, then Mr Harold Fredericks arrives to attend to the fault. He has a calm, confident and thorough approach to his work. He sets about tackling the problem that two technical persons who had previously visited, simply made excuses and walked away from the task. Unfulfilled promises and not heard from again.

Harold tackles the difficult task of cutting away the branches of the large tree that completely surrounded the DP pole and the DP box. After an hour of hard work with a saw and branch cutter he is able to reach and open the DP box. The fault is repaired. It is dark before the work is completed to his satisfaction and high standard.

He has restored the customers faith not only in C H Communications but also in Telkom. Where so many others had done damage to the Telkom Brand he is able to turn this around. I have great respect for him as a person and for what he does. I sincerely hope that those in management will also fully appreciate what he does and reward him accordingly. His colleagues can all learn a lot from him.”

“I cannot explain how thankful I am to you for going the extra mile and shorting out my problem with the line speed. I have been phoning ADSL technical support every month for the last 6 months to try and get my line speed increased but was told that my road only had access to 2 Meg’s. You listened to my problem , arranged a meeting with the other departments involved and sorted the problem out all in a matter of 3 hours and phoned me back to inform me, this is unheard-of in this country. I have already confirmed with my ISP that the line speed has increased to 20 meg and have already applied for 10 meg. You have restored my faith in human nature and Telkom, I wish other Telkom employees could learn from your example. Once again thank you for your caring and wonderful service, wish I could have spoken to you 6 months ago.”

They fix the line which two other set of Telkom men could not resolve. They were also very friendly and answered the numerous questions I asked.”

“I am writing to you to commend a member of your team, Alex, for his assistance in getting a pole repaired on Beatty Road, University Estate. I had been trying to log the call both by email and phone since the 21st of September. I had emailed outlining the problem with photos, maps and a message clearly outlining the dangerous situation. The pole and lines were hanging dangerously low and was causing a hazard to passing or parking cars and surrounding houses. I was told to email and I followed up multiple times only to be told to provide a telkom number for the house. Our tenants do not have a landline and most of their neighbours did not either. I sent a map and included arrows clearly outlining where the pole was and still no action. I fully understand that a number is needed to log a call but when there is impending danger and the matter relates to an outside pole, one would think that exceptions are made. Eventually the pole collapsed onto the wall of the house at which point we were desperate and as the telkom regular channels were not available to us, I reached out to Alex who had previously assisted at a house of my mom’s. He quickly alerted the relevant parties after he was also sent pictures of the damage. He was able to assist in a matter of 24 hours where the telkom helpdesk could not assist in for a period of weeks. I had previously emailed two telkom representatives and even used the complaints email. While policy is important (i.e. a landline number), in today’s world of mobile and fibre, not everyone has a landline. If there is a problem with a telkom pole, outside of a house, on a public street, one would hope that staff would be trained to assess danger. If our property(car or house) or person was damaged, there would be legal implications for Telkom as there was negligence in handling this matter until Alex was alerted. His action helped to avert danger and potential legal action against telkom. I hope his actions are commended and that policy is reviewed in light of this obvious oversight of the need of a landline number to log a call.”
